Freedom No More. Copyright 2005. K. Baxter Packwood. My latest stitiching project. Since I took the photographs, did the manipulating in Photo Shop, and did the stitching myself I do believe I'm entiteld to the copyright. And while one might state that doing a photo overlay is pretty common I still own the rights to the photos and the art. Phhhhhhhttttttttttttttttt. Posted by Picasa

What is Copyrightable?

This is in response to some postings left on my blog by anonymous

Fine fine fine, there's nothing new under the sun so I guess this means I'm free to copy others work now as well. As most of it is what I would definately consider public domain, yet others will defend it to the death that it's theirs. Since I'm not finished with the piece, as I'm sure this is considered public domain as well, can one really say that the quilting stitch is really public or not? I've never seen the pattern in a book, I've only been using it in my designs for a long time now.

It's just a major peeve of mine when the Me Too Me Too band that sees something and wow all of a sudden now they have to put it in their work, not matter how much it looks like crap!!! It's like no one has an original thought in their head, they see someone elses work and can't even be bothered with changing it and making it their own. Ahhhhhh I'm starting to sound like a bitchy artist again, I knew she was still alive and well.

I think I need more chocolate!

Quilting

In case your viewing my quilt, that's in progress, and get a wild hair to copy my quilting pattern and then use it as your own, DON'T. That would be considered copyright infringement. This is my own personal pattern design that I have been using for the better part of 10 years now. I have several others I use that are exclusively my own as well.

WIP or UFO's

One of hte perks of hanging onto a piece forever is that eventually some day it'll come to you as to what that piece wants to be when it grows up. For instance this lovely WIP has been hanging around for some ten or more years now. It started as a college class project that I never had the time or materials to finish. Well that's going to change now, I'll be finishing it here real quick like.

But I think this other piece may need to percolate for awhile. I think the problem is is I made it too big, probably if I were to hack it up into much smaller pieces, with my rotary cutter, it'd probably let me know what it wants to be. Maybe it wants to be a book and not one large piece.

Pouch

In Progress; one pouch. This is "Green Tomato Pouch".

I have more stitching to do to the surface, I'll put some tiny beads on the stitching once that part is done. Then the internal element still needs to be created.

Advice - do your stitching and beading FIRST, then put it together and bead a fringe onto the pouch, it's much much easier that way! Also don't try to amputate the end of your middle finger, this is the finger I use for pushing the needle through the surface, while washing dishes. It seriously cuts into your stitching time , while your waiting for said appendage to heal ;-)

Hot Kitty

Pepper sitting in a warm sun beam in my studio window. The white stuff outside the window is snow, which I dearly love.

Water the Fluid of Life

Well today is off to a bad start, I knew it might happen yesterday, but was hoping it would not. We have no water today. Hopefully the maintence crew will remember to turn it back on before they leave today. The city is reworking the water mains, in order to replace them I suppose they must turn my water off but it doesn't mean that I'm happy about this.

Blogspot still has something funky going on with it, it's getting really cranky.

Speaking of cranky I will be redoing the webstore here real quick like, like after I take a nap. I've had it with my web host, they've jerked me around for the last time. I'm going a host that is local, and speaks english, american english!

More Postcards

I will be posting these for sale on my webstore later. Life is very busy right now, I need to go dye some wool yarns, maybe I'll even get to the silk stuff later??? I'm way behind in my wool fabric dyeing as well, so much so I pulled all of the hand-dyed wool fabrics from my webstore.

If I could clone myself I could probably get more stuff done, until then however... right now I just want to take a nap, I've been feeling pretty blah the past few weeks. I went to the doc today they did some bloodwork will know sometime today or tomorrow what's going on.

Trouble, I wonder if he will survive the winter, most get flattened by traffic on the streets around here. I have a wheelbarrow filled with walnuts at the base of this tree so he doesn't have far to go to get food. Posted by Picasa

Two Icelandic fleeces I recieved today, they smell like sheep and for me that is Heaven! Now I'm off to wash and card them. Posted by Picasa

A moving tapestry. If it looks like it's moving it's because it is, there's a tabby cat under there, even though I didn't want him there. Yes I'll be glad when the studio is outside of the house, maybe then I can get something done w/o the assistance of a tabby cat! Posted by Picasa

What Will I Do With It?

Stare at it like I do all of my other prized possessions in my stash! I haven't decided what to do with the pouch yet. It came with the hankies inside, which I thought was really cool. I have more hankies as well, I need to dig them out, I seem to collect them and never use them, just like the aprons I suppose.

Pouch, I picked this up at a yardsale last year. I absolutely love the delicateness of this pouch, it contains ladies hankies. Posted by Picasa

Wooly Worms

Where are all of the wooly worms? You know the fuzzy little guys we see in the fall. I saw some way back in July but haven't seen any since. Do they know something we don't know?

Sandstone Series

These three quilts are my favorite quilts, I refer to them as my babies. It's not easy to sell them, so I'm asking a pretty good price, only serious collectors will consider these most probably. They have also been published a time or two each.

Quilts For Sale!

I did something today I thought I'd never do, I put my quilts up for sale on my webstore. If I can sell the quilts I have for sale I can pay for my building outright. I'll still need a loan to buy a new furnace and put in a bathroom, but the store would be mine. At this point this is the only way I can make this work, is to sell my artwork.

The woman who owns the store won't rent out the whole building to me, the only way I can get the whole building is to buy the building. the up side is I will have my business and my professional studio out of the house. This means no more stairs, that my aching knees are rebelling against, and no more worrying about the pets getting into rooms that are off limits to them.

So if your interested in seeing what I have for sale check out my art website or my webstore for more details.
