A New Series is Born!

A new series has presented itself and has demanded to be created! Last night I painted the first of the fabrics for my new "Fields" series. I live streamed the painting session, and also threw down a challenge if you're interested in participating.

The fabric this morning after it has dried. Color loss of 50% is not uncommon when working on fabric.

First set of six blocks, the fabric is still wet.

Am loving this new series already. I will live stream stitching these pieces next week!

Patternless Skirt

Almost finished, the waste band and hem are next.

Natural, Indigo, and Rust dyed cotton muslin fabric.

It should have taken 45 minutes to construct from start to finish but since I accidentally sewed it together (wrong sides) twice it took about two hours!  So I decided I'll finish the waste band tomorrow and think about how I want to finish the hem.

It's Calling my Name!

It's saying stitch me!  An old studio/shop rag, that found it's way into the main laundry this past week.  Found it early this morning neatly folded up amongst the tee shirts, that would be a John thing.  It's oober soft and is whispering "stitch me".  I guess I'll have to give it what it wants!

French Pearl Cotton - Yummy!

Stopped by my favorite haunt today, JB Knacker in Gilbert, Iowa, and found five beautiful skeins of vintage french pearl cotton!

Some of the thread has some foxing but should come out with a gentle washing. 

WIP - Crow Tree

Now in the auditioning stage.  Digitally printed silk organza fabric layered on top of painted timtex.

 

The digital print laying on top of some rosin paper, that I have covering my sewing table.

Digital silk print layered on top of a cotton digital print.  I'm experimenting with the ethereal values of the prints at this point to see which direction I want this piece to go.

The round spots were created using marshmallows and puff medium. Fabric Paints, inks, and marshmallows on cotton fabric (left) and silk organza (right).

Well I seem to have misplaced one of my practice samples, to try a technique on, so in the process of looking for that piece I found this duo from 2007.

No. 45 Redux

Corn No. 45 - Redux, I didn't like the original grain bin so I undid some of the stitching and turned it into a short fat silo, I'm much happier now!

A beginning sketch on cotton fabric, more pen and ink and then some stitching and then maybe I'll rust and compost it for some additional color.

Needs more stitching.  I started this piece this evening, not bad for a day with no stitching or creating blocked out the schedule!

Silk Organza, Dupioni, Cocoons, Cotton, Natural and Compost Dyed.

Still have lots of hand stitching before this piece is finished, and then on to finish the final seven pieces.

Now for some more hand stitching.  Natural dyed and compost dyed fabrics cotton and silk.  Natural dyed silk eyelash yarn.  I found it hiding in a pile of UFO's (unfinished objects)  I started it several years ago, added the dark velvet circles for the bins and silo's this evening.

Community of Artists Exhibition Acceptance

Crow Field was accepted into the Octagon Center for the Art's Community of Artists Exhibition!

Final Leg

The final leg towards my solo show, finishing up four pieces in the Prairie Series.

Natural Dyes Cotton and Silk Fabrics.
Machine Stitched

I cut each of these panels off of their canvas stretched frames and cut them down to size, which varies, as I was unhappy with them.  With the addition of more stitching, and in some cases more silk fabric overlays, and then binding off the edges with zig zag stitching, they will then be re-mounted to 18x24 inch stretched canvas.  More pics later.
